This original recipe was almost lost forever, as Diemer forgot to write it down and spent months attempting to recreate his first concoction! Because the only coloring on hand at the factory was pink, that became the new product’s color, which set the stage for this type of gum from that point forward! This new sensation hit the market and became instantly popular, with Fleer selling 1.5 million dollars of product in the first year. Dubble Bubble was created in 1928 by accident after Walter Diemer, an accountant at the Fleer Chewing Gum Company, came up with an innovative recipe that produced a gum which proved to be less sticky, easier to chew and more capable of producing bubbles than previous formulations.
